a walk round the village in the dark

street lights shine
but look beyond
Selene holds court

no humans on foot
cats lurk
 owls hoot

two people

These are two quite separate scenes:

painted flowerpots
and a woman knitting
by a narrowboat

on the roof he lies
basking among the baggage
is he cooked yet?

treecreeper at Foxton Locks

bullrush spikes
seed-down like haloes
backlit by the sun

brimstones and peacocks

violets' subtle sweet scent
in late March warmth

pub by the towpath
we drink icy lemonade
treecreeper seeks bugs

sky again

 ruddy-winged starlings
fly as sunset glows below
new moon and Venus

sunset glow  birds flight
crescent moon and half Venus
and a vapour trail

or perhaps better than either:

starlings' wings glow pink
above the sunset
new moon and Venus

back to reality

time to stop
making tired excuses
supermarket call

falls apart in the wash
oooh -  two little hats?

Misty morning

in mist-cuddled world
blackbird pecks at moss
for food or nesting

through the mist
the promise of brightness
sunshine to come

back to base

arrive at Heathrow
with two hours sleep
short night daze

Thursday morning at the NY Phil Rehearsal

a first draft, with acknowledgements to Brian,  and Eric Bazilian's 'What if god was one of us . . . just a slob like one of us'

in jeans and sneakers
they concentrate on playing
no slouches these

draft 2:
in jeans and sneakers
concentration ferocious
these are no slobs

Tuesday in East Village

Thanks to Morton, a long-time local resident:

spring-cleaning

As I walked by there were bins on the sidewalk, and streaming water. A woman shouted apologetically - 'Spring-cleaning!'  The sunshine inspired several people along the streets - painting gateposts, digging patches of dirt, planting flowers.

on brownstone-lined street
people dig, plant and clean
in spring sunshine

Then on to lunch with friends - the restaurant windows were wide open panels - the weather was warm, so we had removed our outer layers, but there was a definite wind

menus fly like birds
open windowed lunch spot
we shoot the breeze

American Museum of Natural History

Visited on Sunday - planetarium, butterfly conservatory, Space exploration area and the hall with models of whale and sea-life.

In the Planetarium - 'Journey to the Stars:

tilt seats below dome
big bang to supernova
dizzying journey

The butterfly conservatory:

MOMA and spring flowers

We visited MOMA on Friday and saw the exhibition of Diego Rivera murals and sketches, among other works

murals are grand
sketches are small
and immediate

A lovely warm Saturday saw us outside:

kids carry flowers
in pots and plastic bags
to plant for summer

warm sunshine
caresses magnolia trees
into bloom

ass or donkey

Very silly word play here in the second haiku:

overnight rain
washes the city
grey cloud footprint

off to MOMA soon
time to harness the donkey
get ass into gear
